Figurative Sculptures

It's Too Late

This piece is commenting on the issue of climate change and how it affects everyone from animals to humans. Polar bears in the North are especially effected as their habitat is melting every single day. I communicated this by putting the polar bear on top, dripping down the sculpture and on to the human who refuses to clean up the mess. The buildings floating and falling into the water are indicative of rising sea levels that are caused by polar melting.

This article describes how polar bears have long been the "poster child of the consequences of climate change". As sea ice starts to melt, the species is struggling with hunting hunting seals, their main source of food. This means they could go extinct in the wild by the end of the century.

"Why are glaciers and sea ice melting?"

"Ice acts like a protective cover over the Earth and our oceans. These bright white spots reflect excess heat back into space and keep the planet cooler." Human activities are the source of melting which is causing the planet to heat at an alarming rate. This is causing sea levels to rise subsequently causing irreversible damage all over the globe.

"Climate Activist Dies After Setting Himself on Fire at Supreme Court"

In an Earth Day protest against climate change, Wynn Alan Bruce set himself on fire and passed away in front of the Supreme Court in Washington D.C. A climate scientist and friend of Bruce, Dr. Kritee Kanko commented, “This is not suicide, this is a deeply fearless act of compassion to bring attention to climate crisis.”
